    Still doesn’t explain why imo but rather in more detail what is happening, doesn’t explain why this principle isn’t put into car body designs or bullets either. There’s something missing here that a computer simulation isn’t accounting for which is only as smart as it’s programming, kinda like mathematics can only be accurate if it accounts for all variables otherwise it just looks impressive and hard to understand.

    Computer time. It reduces the number of iterations you have to make. Studies have show companies that invest in simulation software spend less on research and have shorter times to market, whether it be jumbo jets, cars, or golf balls.

    does this theory work with all fluid dynamics because if it works for newtonian fluids like water. if it does then they should use this design on ships and subs.

    Could you do a model to tests the golf ball effect on a car as seen in Mythbusters? I think that the golf ball dimples only need to be placed in strategic areas. Refer to fighter plane vortex generators for insights. The idea is to improve fuel efficiency.

    if you listen to the beginning of the video he states that they knew this already but the computer helps visualize and quantify what effect the dimples have. If they can quantify it they can improve how deep, how big , and how many dimples are best on a golf ball to make it go the farthest. When Daimler engineered the first gasoline engine in the late 1800’s he did that without a computer but look what computers have done for combustible engines today…
